World Championship Representation
In addition to current residents of the Cook Islands a number of spots (limited to ten) are available to overseas triathletes (amateurs only) for representation of Cook Islands at the ITU Age Group World Championships. Distances include Olympic and Sprint.

The next event that athletes may be considered for are:
  • 2011 - Beijing, China (dates not yet available)
  • 2012 - Auckland, New Zealand, 18-24 October 2012
 
Selection Criteria

- Limited to residents of Oceania (Australia, New Zealand, and all the South Pacific Island nations), and former residents of the Cook Islands

- Must be a member of the national Triathlon Association in the country of residence if one exists

- Must have competed in the Rarotonga International Triathlon within the past 2 years

- Preference will be given in the following order

    a) Number of times representing the Cook Islands at an ITU World Championship event

    b) Number of times competing in the Rarotonga International Triathlon

    c) Number of times competing in the ITU World Championships

    d) Ranking within their category at the Rarotonga International Triathlon

    e) Ranking within their category at an ITU World Championships

- Limited to 10 non-residents

- Requests to be made to the Cook Island Triathlon Association seeking approval to represent the team, with details of past races, 3 months prior to the event.

- Cook Islands Triathlon Association reserves the right to amend or vary these policy guidelines

Fees and Responsibilities

The fees to non-residents who represent the Cook Islands at the ITU World Championships will include:

- NZ$100 Cook Islands Triathlon Association membership fee

- Event entry fees payable as set by the Local Organising Committee (LOC)

- Race gear. Each competitor will be responsible for purchasing their own race gear, under the direction of the Cook Islands ITU Race committee

- Travel, Food, Accommodation, Insurance. Each competitor will be responsible for organising and purchasing their own travel, food, accommodation, insurance, and all other sundry costs.  The Cook Islands ITU Race committee may offer team bookings but is not be obliged to do so.
